Boater Safety Legislation for 2021

This year the South Carolina Legislature is considering two boating safety bills.  One bill expands the No-Wake Zone around a moored or anchored vessel, wharf, dock, bulkhead, pier, or person in the water from the current 50 feet to 100 feet for Lake Murray.   An increased No-Wake Zone will improve the margin of safety around swimmers, anchored boats and docks and help reduce erosion and property damage due to excessive wave action.  The second bill is for Boater Education.  Currently in SC there is no boater education requirement unless a person is operating a boat under the age of 16.  It has been shown that a state boater education requirement results in a reduced fatality rate in boating accidents.

It is important for you to let your legislatures know that you support the NO-Wake Zone and Boater Education bills.  You can find your South Carolina State Senator and State Representative at this link. https://www.scstatehouse.gov/legislatorssearch.php

Please call/write/email your own comments to your Senator and Representative.  It is important that you mention that you are a constituent of the legislator and provide your name and address.

Thank you for your support of this important matter.
