Survivors Teaching Students - Gaovarian Cancer Alliance

Gaovarian Cancer Alliance

Survivors Teaching Students® brings the faces and voices of ovarian cancer survivors into the classrooms of health professional students to teach them about women’s experiences with the disease.

Survivors Teaching Students ®

In collaboration with the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance’s innovative educational program, Survivors Teaching Students®, the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance takes ovarian cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members into the classrooms of future healthcare professionals — physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and physician assistants to share their stories and experiences with the objective of increasing the students’ understanding of ovarian cancer symptoms and risk factors so that they will be able to diagnose the disease when it is in its earlier, most treatable stages.

The majority of ovarian cancer cases are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced and women’s survival is compromised. The symptoms may not be recognized early enough and too often women who are at high-risk are not identified or monitored.

Survivors Teaching Students® brings the faces and voices of ovarian cancer survivors into the classrooms of health professional students to teach them about women’s experiences with the disease.

We are in a unique position to help students become more sensitive to the symptoms of and risk factors for ovarian cancer so that when they become diagnosticians they can diagnose women early and save lives. If you or a family member is interested in becoming a participant, please give us a call at 404-255-1337  or email Info@GAOvarianCancer.org
